Out of Purgatory II – Peake Street Studios

Saturday, March 17th at 8pm  47 Peake Street (Peake Street runs parallel to Spring Park Road between Victoria and Churchill)  626-3716

Hello, I will have two pieces in this show (my original, finished by who knows. And the little sculpture by Ahman Katz that I finished [finished off more like]) Should be fun. For those a long way away, I will try to get them on my website shortly.

Below is Donnalee’s assessment of the show. Peace – john

Members of the Peake Street Studios Collective will mount their second Out of Purgatory show on Saturday, March 17th at 8pm.

Artist challenges are a tradition at Peake Street. This project involves works which have been emotionally abandoned by one artist being completed by another and was a tremendous success last year. Unfinished pieces which have become problematic for their original creators are selected by random draw and completed in six weeks with proceeds from a silent auction of completed works helping to finance Peake Street events.

Artists who participated last year found the experience very interesting as they struggled to come to terms with a balance between the original intent of the piece and their own vision and abilities. Since artists must select from one pool of unfinished works, there is no guarentee they will be working in their medium of choice.

The show will have added significance this year since many of the unfinished pieces were originally prepared for Peake Street shows. In addition to doing yearly artist challenges, the collective regularly mounts themed shows. With fifty two members eager to participate in shows like Love, Memory, Robots and Puzzles it is not uncommon for pieces to, for a variety of reasons, remain in limbo. In this respect, many of the pieces in Out of Purgatory II will be “coming home” when the show opens mid-March.
