Sunday April 6th support for Tibet :: London


Dear Friend,

I would like to share the following information regarding events on Sunday April 6th – please come and show your support for Tibet if you are able. It is a critical time for the brutally oppressed Tibetan people, let’s send them the message that we stand in solidarity and support them in their struggle for freedom.

Tibetan Freedom Torch – Day of Action – London – April 6th

1. Olympic Torch Relay Protests
2. Tibetan Freedom Torch Rally
3. The Freedom Torch travels to Paris

1. The Olympic torch will be passing through London on April 6th on a route from Wembley Stadium to North Greenwich. Tibetans and their supporters will hold protests as the torch passes along the route. These are:

a) Queensway – Gather at 11:00 at the junction of Queensway and Bayswater Road. The torch is due to pass through at 11:30. (Nearest tube: Queensway or Bayswater). There will be a ceremony for victims of torture, please feel free to bring flowers.

b) Bedford Place – Gather at 11:45 at the junction of Bedford Place and Great Russell Street. The torch is due to pass through at 12:20. (Nearest tubes: Russell Square and Holborn)

c) Whitehall – Gather at 12:30 at junction of Richmond Terrace and Whitehall) opposite Downing Street). The torch will pass through at approx. 13:00 on Whitehall (nearest tubes: Westminster and Charing Cross) before making their way to King’s Cross for the Tibetan Freedom Torch Rally.

2. Gather at 14:15 for the rally at Argyle Square, which will include inspiring speakers and songs of freedom alongside young athletes from Team Tibet. The rally also features the reunited Drapchi nuns, and speakers include Executive Director of Students for a Free Tibet Lhadon Tethong, former political prisoner Ngawang Sangdrol and MP Norman Baker.

There will be a ceremony for the Tibetan Freedom Torch and Team Tibet, with songs of freedom from Chino and Joe Driscoll, Phuntsok Norkhang, Tenzing Kunsang and Jamyang Dolma and the Tibetan Community Dancers.

Come to Argyle Square (5 minutes walk down Crestfield Street, directly opposite King’s Cross St Pancras Station). Bring flags and banners and support the call for a free Tibet, independent of Chinese rule. Starts at 14:30 and ends at approx 15:30

3. Following the rally a delegation of Tibetans and supporters including Drapchi nuns and the Tibetan Freedom Torch will travel on the 17:30 Eurostar to Paris on the next leg of a global relay. They will be welcomed in the French capital by Tibetans and supporters.
